Nollywood actor Godwin Nnadiekwe has been hospitalised after sustaining injuries during a film shoot, following an on-set altercation with fellow actor Zubby Micheal.
In a post shared on Instagram, Nnadiekwe explained that he was unexpectedly kicked in the chest while filming a scene. He stated that the action was not part of the script and had not been instructed by the director.
Though he initially avoided naming the actor involved, footage later released on social media captured Zubby Micheal approaching Nnadiekwe aggressively and delivering the kick, before walking away from the scene.
According to Nnadiekwe, the force of the kick caused significant chest pain, for which he sought medical attention without support from the film’s production crew. He noted that no first aid or assistance was provided on set.
“This wasn’t scripted or directed,” he wrote. “I had to manage the pain and treatment on my own.”
He urged the industry to adopt stricter safety standards, especially in cases where productions lack insurance or medical infrastructure.
“When things like this happen without safety measures in place, the risks can be life-threatening,” he said. “We need to do better as an industry.”
Shortly after the video circulated, Nnadiekwe’s management issued a statement confirming that his condition had worsened and that he had been admitted to a hospital for treatment of internal bleeding. The statement directly named Zubby Micheal as the actor involved.
“We confirm that Mr. Godwin Nnadiekwe is currently receiving medical care after sustaining internal injuries from a physical encounter on set involving Mr. Zubby Micheal,” the statement read.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about the safety and professionalism on Nigerian film sets, with calls for clearer protocols during action sequences and better protection for actors.
