We Need Help — Senator Seriake Speaks on Trump’s Military Threat to Nigeria
Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, has responded to United States President Donald Trump’s latest warning about alleged genocide against Christians in Nigeria and his threat of possible military action.
Last week, Trump placed Nigeria on a watch list as a “Country of Particular Concern,” accusing the government of failing to protect Christians from extremist attacks. He also hinted that the U.S. military could intervene if the violence continues.
Reacting in a statement on Wednesday night, Dickson admitted that Nigeria’s security challenges are worsening, stressing that the country needs all the help it can get to end terrorism.
He, however, insisted that such support must come with respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Let’s be honest with ourselves — the killings have gone on for too long. The government and security agencies have been overwhelmed. We need help! No nation can confront terrorism alone,” the lawmaker said.
He further urged President Bola Tinubu to collaborate with the U.S. and other global allies to defeat insurgency, while strengthening ties with neighbouring African nations whose cooperation would be crucial.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian government has repeatedly denied claims of religious persecution, maintaining that ongoing attacks are acts of terrorism that affect citizens of all faiths.
Officials insist that security agencies are working tirelessly to restore peace across affected regions.
