The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has confirmed that key government officials and industry leaders will attend its upcoming breakfast meeting on the Nigeria-Peoples Republic of China currency swap.

Notable attendees include Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), representatives from the Federal Ministry of Finance, and Aare Hakeem Olanrewaju, Chairman of the Customs Consultative Council.

The forum, titled “Navigating the Nigeria-Peoples Republic of China Currency Swap: Opportunities and Challenges for Import, Export and Maritime Business,” is set for April 15 in Lagos.

MARAN President, Godfrey Bivbere, confirmed that the CBN Governor and the Federal Ministry of Finance have committed to participating in the meeting.

“Aare Hakeem Olanrewaju, Chairman of the breakfast meeting, will also be in attendance,” he added.

Other expected participants include representatives from the Chinese Embassy, the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), and other key stakeholders from the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), as well as importers, exporters, maritime operators, policymakers, economists, financial institutions, and trade organizations.

Bivbere emphasized that the forum reflects MARAN’s commitment to engaging with critical government policies that affect the maritime industry.

“The Nigeria-China currency swap is designed to promote bilateral trade by providing Naira liquidity to Chinese businesses and Yuan liquidity to Nigerian businesses, ultimately reducing the reliance on the US dollar for transactions,” he explained.
