The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) has urged the House of Representatives, led by Rt. Hon. Speaker Tajudeen Abass, to urgently investigate bribery claims made by Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s Head of Financial Crime Compliance.
Gambaryan alleges that three Nigerian lawmakers demanded a $150 million bribe during his detention in Nigeria.
HEDA, through its Chairman Olanrewaju Suraju, expressed serious concern over the claims, noting their potential impact on the Nigerian legislature’s integrity.
Gambaryan, who was detained for eight months over alleged corruption, named Philip Agbese, Ginger Onwusibe, and Peter Akpanke as the involved lawmakers.
Suraju emphasized that such accusations must not be ignored, urging for a swift, transparent, and impartial investigation. He stressed that the House of Representatives must uphold its duty to transparency and accountability.
“Failure to address these allegations will undermine the legislature’s commitment to good governance and anti-corruption,” Suraju stated.
HEDA further called for the investigation to be conducted without bias and for the findings to be made public to ensure continued trust in the Nigerian government. They also warned of potential legal action if the House fails to act within a reasonable timeframe.
