On Friday, a tragic accident at Command Junction, Nnewi, resulted in the deaths of three children, a woman, and two men. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported that a speeding trailer, descending a hill, “experienced brake failure, lost control, and collided with the Mercedes lorry.”
The crash then “pushed the container into a nearby building.” Sector Commander, Mrs. Joyce Alexander, stated that “a total of six male adults, one female adult, and three female children were involved in the crash,” with three fatalities and four injuries.
Mrs. Alexander confirmed that the driver of the trailer “fled the scene,” and the FRSC is actively working to “undertake crash investigations and other procedures to ensure the absconded driver and the owner of the trailer are found.”
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, and Alexander expressed her condolences, advising drivers to ensure “vehicles meet minimum safety standards before plying the roads.”
