A man in Asa Umudim community, Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria, has reportedly set his house on fire, resulting in the death of one of his daughters and leaving his wife and two other children in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses say the man, believed to be about 40 years old, allegedly carried out the act after accusing his wife of infidelity and frequently receiving calls from men he suspected to be her lovers. He was said to have doused the house with a flammable substance before igniting it.
As reported by Daily Post newspaper, the fire claimed the life of one of the couple’s daughters, while the wife and two children sustained severe burns and are being treated in a hospital.
A resident of the area revealed that angry villagers nearly attacked the man before police officers arrived and arrested him. The body of the deceased child has since been taken to a mortuary.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said, “Yes, the police are aware. Investigation is ongoing.”
