Davido Steps Into Osun Politics, Set to Register with Accord Party
Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has hinted at a deeper political alignment after announcing plans to formally register with the Accord Party in Osun State.
The singer disclosed on Tuesday that he would be travelling to Osogbo to collect his membership card at the Osun State Government House, popularly called Imole House.
The announcement came just days after his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party.
Davido shared the update via his social media platforms, revealing that he would be present at the Government House to complete the process.
He tagged the governor in the post, sparking conversations across political and entertainment circles about the growing intersection between celebrity influence and grassroots politics in the state.
The development follows a major political shake-up in Osun after Governor Adeleke confirmed his resignation from the PDP and pitched his tent with the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The governor formally unveiled his new political platform on December 9, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the Accord Party. At the event, he declared his intention to seek a second term under the party’s banner.
According to Adeleke, his decision to leave the PDP was not rushed. He explained that weeks of consultations with political stakeholders, party leaders and opinion moulders informed his move.
He revealed that he officially joined the Accord Party on November 6, positioning it as the vehicle for his re-election bid in 2026.
The governor cited alignment with the party’s welfare-driven ideology as a key reason for his choice, noting that it resonates with his administration’s focus on social inclusion and public service delivery.
Adeleke further assured supporters that the decision was taken in the interest of continuity, insisting that his administration still enjoys strong grassroots backing across the state.
He described the Accord Party as a platform capable of sustaining unity while delivering what he called “democratic dividends” to residents of Osun State, adding that preparations were already underway for the next election cycle.
The governor had earlier confirmed his exit from the PDP in a statement shared on his Instagram page, attributing his resignation to unresolved leadership crises at the party’s national level.
He stated that his resignation letter was submitted to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, on November 4, 2025.
Davido had reacted subtly to his uncle’s resignation announcement at the time, reposting it with a brief caption that read, “Jeje…”.
With his planned visit to Osogbo to collect an Accord Party membership card, the music star’s move is now being viewed as a symbolic show of solidarity with his uncle’s political journey, and a reminder of the increasing role public figures play in shaping political narratives beyond the stage.
